Our designers are skilled at creating homes that are carefully thought out from a design aspect and also from a construction perspective, bringing quality, flair and value to your investment.
All Hunter & Craig house plans are original and bespoke, designed specifically your site and how you like to live.
We take pride in producing quality designs and drawings that are accurate and easily understood by other builders and tradespeople, with direct input from our in-house builders to ensure everything we create is best practice when it comes to construction.
We don’t start with our ideas, we start with yours. We like to meet you on site to understand your vision of the project you want to create, discussing the site, your design ideas and relationships between inside and outside spaces. We encourage you to create a scrapbook of ideas of homes, design elements and finishings to share with us.
After the initial site visit we develop a comprehensive design brief establishing your living preferences, intended budget, timeframes and much more. We do groundwork around review relevant district or city plan requirements or building restrictions that may apply. At this point we confidently begin designing your new home.
The design process begins with drawing and presenting the first concept plans. We give you as much time as you need to go through these with a fine-toothed comb to ensure you are happy. Modifications can easily be made at this stage and we continue to work with you until we have plans that fulfil your vision.
Once concept plans are confirmed, we go through room by room and document your desired finishes and fitting. This is a good time to engage with our independent interior designer or one of your choice if you are looking for additional inspiration. When we confirm materials and finishes, the plans are priced by an independent QS (quantity surveyor) for the building contract. At this point, we will agree a start date and a timeline for the project if you’re building with Hunter and Craig; if you’re building with another company, you’ll be supplied with quality drawings that your builder can easily understand and follow.
Our design team work closely with interior designer Greg Booth of Otago Design to assist with styling of homes. If you choose this service, we find it helpful to start this early on in the design phase to get a cohesive look and to help with fixture and fitting options before committing to final plans and construction.
